Before the end of April, the National Government will comply with payments to producers

Before April 30, the payment of 84 million balboas that has been established for fiscal 2020, to the country's producers who offered their products in the Panama Solidario Plan, must have been fulfilled, as announced in a press conference by the minister of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Augusto Valderrama and the General Director of the Agricultural Marketing Institute (IMA), Carlos Motta.

Valderrama announced that last week important payments were made to the pig sector and producers of Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí, and for this week it will continue with the producers of Herrera and Los Santos, and for next week in Coclé and Veraguas.

He said that as a result of hurricanes Eta and Iota, a situation occurred that was not expected with the rice harvest due to the high humidity, so some mills refused to receive it, and the IMA had to buy about 600 thousand quintals of rice that were not budgeted. At this time we have the economic resources, so this week we will be paying more than 3 and a half million balboas of rice from the 2020-2021 harvest.

He added that they are receiving 60 million balboas corresponding to the months of January, February and March of this year, to be able to follow the producers.

Valderrama reiterated that this program was conceived in the midst of the pandemic to bring peace and social stability to all the country's producers and to the general public, since it served so that the most humble people have the basic elements of survival until the end comes of the pandemic.

“Today we are here to reiterate to the producers that we continue despite the pandemic and the difficult economic situation in the country, making all efforts on the instructions of the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, so that the agricultural sector continues forward.

Meanwhile, the director of the IMA, Carlos Motta, explained that for two weeks they have been paying producers, producer associations and suppliers nationwide.
