ATP, presidents of tourist unions, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Cabinet make a tour of the Tocumen Airport

The administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), Iván Eskildsen, together with the general manager of Tocumen SA, Raffoul Arab, and the presidents of the tourism sector unions, the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama and the Tourism Cabinet, made a tour of the facilities of the Tocumen SA International Airport, the main gateway to the country, where they were able to learn how the biosecurity plan applied in the terminal works and the care offered to the traveler.

The visit covered the areas: free zone, Migration, Customs, level 100 (passenger arrival) and terminals 1 and 2, where the delegation was able to verify the work carried out by the institutions during the arrival and departure of passengers.

Eskildsen indicated, at the conclusion of the tour, that it was possible to verify that the inter-institutional work carried out at the airport, in coordination with Tocumen SA, is adequate, and added that strategies are being evaluated to reduce the waiting time of passengers who are perform molecular testing at the airport.

He stressed that the National Government is betting on economic reactivation and that therefore the ATP and Tocumen SA analyzed as an important issue to address the concerns of the tourism sector and the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama regarding the experiences of the traveler at the Tocumen International Airport.

Ernesto Orillac, president of the National Chamber of Tourism of Panama, coincided with the president of APATEL, Armando Rodríguez, highlighting that it was necessary for the sector to witness the logistics of care at the country's main airport. “This meeting will allow us to find mechanisms to speed up processes and avoid long lines and waiting times so as not to affect the passenger, maintaining the protocols established by the Ministry of Health (MINSA). Thank God with vaccines this will change, because as people get vaccinated the virus will dissipate and restrictions will be eliminated ”.

José Ramón Icaza, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama, highlighted that the percentage of people positive for the virus that are detected in Tocumen S.A. is 1 per thousand passengers and that therefore the risk is relatively low. We consider that the molecular test should be a complement and not the test that allows the entry of passengers but the rapid or antigen test.
