The regional director of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development in Chiriquí, Hermenegildo Baker, and officials of the Ombudsman's Office, held a meeting with members of the National Council of Ngöbe Youth of Panama (CNAJUPA), who represent agricultural workers from the district of Highlands.
During the meeting, Ricardo Miranda, one of the spokespersons for the delegation, requested the intervention of MITRADEL to investigate alleged violations of the labor rights of indigenous workers in that district.
For his part, Baker said that as of Monday, June 21, the entity's inspectors will carry out the pertinent procedures in the agricultural farms of that district, in order to draw up the pertinent report and continue with the procedures established by the norm. Meanwhile, the Ombudsman's Office will participate as an observer of the inspection tour.
The regional director expressed that MITRADEL keeps the doors open for dialogue, since the mission is to guarantee compliance with the Labor Code and thus ensure the maintenance of a harmonious worker-employer relationship.
