They commemorate 75 years of the Tommy Guardia National or Geographic Institute


In a significant event, the "Tommy Guardia" National Geographic Institute commemorated its 75 years of service to the country, an event attended by the Minister of Government, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo.

During the act they highlighted the work of the officials with the longest service in the institution, corresponding to the head of the Government to deliver the recognition to the official with 51 years of service in the entity.

On the other hand, the governor of the province of Panama, Carla García, presented a recognition to the director of the Institute, Walter Myers, for the achievements of the entity throughout these years.

The National Geographic Institute "Tommy Guardia" was born in 1946, with the creation of the Cartography Section, attached to the Ministry of Public Works. In 1954, it was renamed the Directorate of Cartography. It is through Executive Decree No. 15, of February 13, 1967, that it is given the name of "Tommy Guardia Cartographic Institute" (homage to Tomás Guardia Jr., first director of the Directorate of Cartography in 1954).
