Export opportunities to the UK grow

In order to promote the use of the platform of the Office of Commercial Intelligence (INTELCOM) in the search for new markets for Panamanian products, the webinar ´Identification and Exploitation of Export Opportunities to the United Kingdom´ was held, which included the participation of Óscar García, consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and director of the unit.

The virtual conference, organized by INTELCOM with the support of the National Directorate for the Promotion of Exports of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Chiriquí (CAMCHI); It allowed users, mostly exporters, to know relevant aspects of the commercial relationship with the European country.

"The year 2020 marked the fall for many products and countries worldwide, but it was observed that in the United Kingdom market the level of consumption of these main products, such as: fresh or chilled pumpkins; avocado; roasted coffee without decaffeination ; shrimp and prawns (prepared or preserved in hermetically sealed containers); pasta (not cooked, stuffed or otherwise prepared, and without eggs), bakery, pastry or biscuit products; sauces and dressings; among others, they did not show a downward trend, which denotes the strength of the final target market ", emphasized García.

Within the exhibition, García also highlighted that, despite the fact that Panama reflects both tariff advantages and price differentials between how the United Kingdom buys it versus how Panama exports it to the world, in none of the mentioned products does Panama appear as a supplier to the United Kingdom , which opens the compass for a superior analysis on whether Panama can serve as a platform for foreign investments to establish themselves in Panama and develop these products to aspire to the United Kingdom market.
