Office of the First Lady brings donations to the Parará Purú Community

More than 160 people between adults and children are benefited with the Social Assistance tour. There are 56 families affected by the aid thanks to the MAPFRE-APROB agreement.


The Office of the First Lady of the Republic, through the Directorate of Social Assistance, carried out a tour on Tuesday in the indigenous community of Parará Purú, Caimitillo district, Panama district, Panama province.

During the Social Assistance tour, donations such as food bags, tetra pack milk, diapers and early childhood milk were delivered thanks to the agreement between Fundación MAPFRE and the Asociación Pro Obras de Beneficencia (APROB).

Also on this tour, aids such as oils, school kits, balls, mats, footwear, kitchen kits and sheets were delivered. Residents of the neighboring community of Tusipono Emberá also benefited.

The First Lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo led the Social Assistance tour and said she was very happy with the work that can be done in the communities thanks to the MAPFRE-APROP agreement that brings donations and hope to the families that need it most. .

The community of Parará Purú has a population of 112 people, including adults and children, distributed in 35 families; while the Tusipono community maintains a population of more than 50 people between adults and children distributed in 21 families.

The inhabitants of these communities were not infected by COVID-19, currently all have their first dose of the vaccine and next Thursday 16 they will receive their second dose.

Access to these communities is aquatic through canoes, on the banks of the Chagres, most of the families light up with guaricha, they have a more mobile signal and water from the aqueduct by gravity. The houses are tambo type typical of the Emberá ethnic group.

The residents of both indigenous communities are dedicated to fishing and planting crops of different areas, they also make handicrafts.
