Office of the First Lady brings Plan Panama Solidario por la Niñez to the community of Kankintú


In order to provide basic tools to the different institutions established in the district of Kankintú, Comarca Ngäbe-Buglé, the Office of the First Lady, through the Directorate of Social Assistance, made a tour of the indigenous community of about 3,000 inhabitants .

The Panama Solidarity Plan for Children, led by the First Lady, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, delivered 171 bags of fortified milk, cereals, tetra pack milk and diapers to low-income families who have more than one minor in your household. Cleaning supplies, personal hygiene, footwear and food bags were also delivered.

The visit takes place after the request of the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, to supply the Barriada Unión with food and aid. The purchase of supplies was achieved thanks to the agreement between MAPFRE Panama and the Asociación Pro Obras de Beneficencia (APROB), led by the First Lady.

The First Lady showed her satisfaction with the support given to the more than a thousand families in Kankintú, "being able to reach this community and bring them this much-needed aid is vital for my Office. The delivery is part of our actions of the Panama Solidarity Plan for La Niñez, focused on supplying with food and basic necessities to the children of the country, whose families have been affected by the health emergency of COVID-19. Today we are here, fulfilling that promise and that fills my heart We will continue working for our children and youth throughout the country, "said Colón de Cortizo.

Among other facilities brought to this community are: two smart televisions for the Infoplaza and the school, boots, chainsaws and other tools for the Community Work Committee (COCOTRACO), the group of bakers were given supplies for the preparation of bread . While at Nutre Hogar, a center that houses about 15 children under 5 years of age, they were benefited with solar batteries, various supplies and food.

Also, 15 cell phones were delivered for the benefit of the community, 10 tablets to support students in their study days, educational games (legos) for school use, as well as 50 soccer balls and 50 school kits.

During the tour in the Kankintú community, the Ministry of Health carried out swabs against Covid-19.

Most of the inhabitants of Kankintú are dedicated to subsistence agriculture, they also carry out commercial activities related to livestock and fishing.
