MIDA is updated on the progress of the Central American Trade Digital Platform

To show the progress of the implementation of the Central American Commerce Digital Platform (PDCC), a project that seeks regional integration, high-level representatives of six institutions, including the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), together with members of the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (SIECA), and delegates from the European Union, participated in an update meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

One of the objectives of this project is to ensure regional interoperability, transparency and traceability between customs, migration, single windows, health, agriculture and livestock systems; in addition to assisting in commercial processes, between and with Central America.

The head of MIDA, Augusto Valderrama, participated in the meeting. In his speech, he raised the need to adapt to difficult times that are lived, with creative ideas, to accelerate processes, using digitization and technology, as a mechanism to get closer and be more efficient every day.

He pointed out that the advances that have been shown will result in benefits for the countries, such as lowering the costs of production and trade. He added that projects such as the PDCC are heading in the right direction towards the integration of the region.

Yanela Ortega, head of the MIDA IT unit, explained that this agricultural entity is in line with the times and that the equipment has already been delivered to the quarantine posts, with the tools installed, ready for the development of the application and to be integrated into this program, which must culminate in the month of April of next year.

Melvin Redondo, general secretary of SIECA, and members of his work team, were in charge of publicizing the terms of this program, in pursuit of the commitments with the Panamanian authorities.

According to the PDCC prospecting study, an impact is expected to reduce the cost of trade in the region, of 6.4% with the full implementation of the initiative.

Present at this important meeting were the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), Juan Carlos Sosa; Chris Hoonaert, ambassador of the delegation of the European Union; and Norman Harris, Head of International Trade Negotiations, in charge.
