FAO donates equipment to Animal Health to attend possible incursion of African Swine Fever


The Directorate of Animal Health of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA), received a donation for B / 10,095.00 in inputs by the United Nations Food Organization with acronym in English (FAO), with the objective that Panama prepared and so it can face the possible incursion into the national territory of the African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Director of Animal Health, Dr. Concepción Santos Sanjur thanked FAO and other international organizations that have come to the forefront of the emergency in the presence of ASF that occurs in the Dominican Republic. With this support, the country's care capacity will be strengthened in the face of this serious disease that attacks pigs.

Meanwhile, FAO representative Raixa Elena Llauger indicated that this contribution to the Animal Health Directorate is part of the agency's Technical Cooperation program that helps to strengthen the prevention, diagnosis and immediate response to the disease.

The supplies material delivered to the Animal Health laboratory is composed of kits for the detection of ASF and PPC through real-time PRC, filter tips for micro pipettes, among others.


While the field surveillance specialists have supplies: syringes, vacutainers type needles, vials, bags for samples, necropsy equipment, pig holders for sampling, disposable coveralls (for biosecurity), coolers for sampling transport.

Panama is currently in a Zoosanitary alert, issued last week, due to the detection of ASF in the Dominican Republic.
