Cabinet approves B / .30.5 million in electricity subsidy in favor of about one million customers.

This measure seeks to continue benefiting the final electricity customers, as part of the economic mitigation mechanisms established in the face of the pandemic to help the most vulnerable sectors.

The Cabinet Council authorized the incorporation of B / .30.5 million to the Rate Stabilization Fund (FET) as payment for the Covid-19 electricity subsidy to almost one million customers of distribution companies for the contributions granted to those who they consumed up to 300 kWh during the first half of this year.

Through Resolution No. 87-21, B / .22,176,806.48 are incorporated into the FTE to benefit more than 800 thousand customers of the electricity distribution companies for the contributions granted to those who have a Simple Low Voltage rate (BTS) and consumption up to 300 Monthly kWh during the first half of 2021.

With this subsidy canceled by the National Government, each consumer benefits from a discount between 20 and 24 percent of their actual electricity consumption.

Resolution No. 88-21 was also endorsed, which authorizes the contribution of B / .8,366,337.33 to the Western Tariff Fund (FTO) to replace the Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Chiriquí, S.A. (EDECHI), for the rate applied to its end customers and residents of Almirante, Guabito, Las Tablas, Changuinola and surrounding areas during the first half of 2021.

With this last contribution, 176 thousand clients in the provinces of Bocas del Toro and surrounding areas benefit, who receive this electricity subsidy for the energy they have already consumed in the indicated time.

The electricity subsidy was established in April 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to continue benefiting final electricity customers, as part of the economic mitigation mechanisms established in the face of the crisis generated by the pandemic.

During these 17 months of pandemic, the administration of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen has maintained the payment of subsidies to help the most vulnerable sectors.
