Youth and President Cortizo Cohen talk about the National Dialogue.


A broad conversation was held by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, with students, professionals and activists about the advancement of the Dialogue of the Bicentennial Pact “Closing Gaps”, in which the young people presented their vision of the country and the proposals to achieve points of consensus that help to promote the social, academic and economic development of the country.

 

The young people, belonging to the Youth Advisory Committee for issues of the Bicentennial Pact, presented the progress that has been made since the president called for dialogue, in order to set up a strategy that allows them to reach youth with induction workshops to access to the Ágora platform, as well as debates aimed at fostering critical thinking.

 

Also, in the program “Conectados”, which is broadcast by Sertv, the issues of inclusion, participation and innovation have been addressed, closing gaps in sports, culture and education; and closing gaps in the environment, health and discrimination.

 

President Cortizo Cohen highlighted the importance of meeting with such a diverse and experienced group of young people, and expressed his certainty that “they have objectives and an interest in being part of a process with the mission of closing gaps in the face of the differences that exist. in the country".

 

He stressed that the contribution of young people is essential to lay the foundations of the country that we all want ”, and hence the relevance of the contribution of the Youth Advisory Committee, made up of young professionals who belong to the 5 Panama, and generate proposals based on their environments.
He added that the dialogue is an opportunity to be able to build and sow from now, between now and November, a document that will serve, in the future, for the current and future administrations.

 

He specified that this is a different dialogue, there are already more than 28 thousand proposals, "something impressive, there has been no dialogue with such a number of proposals, and a large part of that is due to the participation of young professionals and talented people," he said.

 

During the discussion, the young people presented their points of view regarding the provision of drinking water and technological platforms for virtual education, both in pre-secondary and secondary education and in university, in addition to the challenge represented by the migration of students from the sector private to the officer.

 

 

They also referred to the inclusion in the different proposals of the Afro-descendant component, of people with disabilities and the work to serve the sectors of social risk with programs that help reduce violence; in addition to health facilities in remote areas and in the comarcas.

 

President Cortizo Cohen highlighted his interest in the "Internet Transforming Life" proposal, since currently 55% of the country does not have Internet, and most of it is concentrated in the regions.

 

He said that although his government will promote important mega-projects, such as Metro Line 3, “what I can assure you is that the Transforming Lives Internet project will be the number one project of this government and, although progress has already been made, it will produce of the Closing Gaps Pact, this will be our project ”, he stressed.

 

President Cortizo Cohen reiterated that this is not the government's dialogue, "it is the dialogue of Panamanians with the objective of closing gaps, not only with the commitment to advance in this government, but that it goes beyond two or three governments."
