‘Mercurio Dos’ brings humanitarian aid to Darien


The Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, together with the Vice Minister Ivor Pitti and the Minister Counselor of the United States Embassy in Panama, Ryan Rowland, toured communities in the province of Darien, which are benefiting from the humanitarian aid that it has arrived, with the support of Operation Mercury Two.

This humanitarian aid work has reached 21 Darien communities located in areas of difficult access; It consists of 6,100 bags from the Panama Solidario plan, in addition to 864,000 pounds of cargo and construction materials.

A team effort that has been joined by personnel from the Ministries of Health, Housing, Government and Social Development, in addition to the Active Club 20-30.

Through this joint exercise carried out by the United States Joint Task Force Bravo, the National Border Service and the National Air Naval Service, medical supplies, school kits and construction materials have been sent to these remote communities.

Minister Pino and the American diplomat Rowland received information about the works that are being carried out, which consist of the construction of 10 new schools and two infoplazas; in addition to adjustments in two posts of the National Border Service in the communities of Tupiza and Canaán Membrillo.

Minister Pino specified that operation "Mercurio Dos", which began on January 18, has made it possible to carry out in the last week and a half, a half, using Chinook helicopters and four other Black Hawk helicopters, taking advantage of the dry season so that this work was fulfilled more effectively, since it has been possible to reach places where there is no land access and some rivers are not navigable due to their low flow.

"Mercurio Dos" has reached remote sectors in communities such as Tucutí, Chepigana, La Palma, Garachiné, Setegantí, Sambú, Púcuru, Paya, Boca de Cupe, Jaqué, Zapallal, Cucunatí and Metetí.
