The Minister of the Environment Milciades Concepción, participated this Tuesday in the follow-up meeting that the Tourism Cabinet periodically carries out for the follow-up and coordination of the actions and tasks that allow the advancement of the strengthening projects for the integral and sustainable development of Portobelo and San Lawrence.
Among the projects evaluated by the inter-institutional commission were the Water Treatment Plant of 1.5 million gallons per day for the district of Portobelo, the project for the conservation of the historical monumental complex of Portobelo that consists of the restoration of the Royal Customs Museum, restoration of the Fort San Jerónimo, San Fernando and the Fort Santiago de la Gloria.
In addition, the Solid Waste Management system of Portobelo and Santa Isabel, the Portobelo Land Management Plan and the studies, designs and construction of Trails in the Portobelo National Park and the construction of the Visitor and Interpretation Center of the Castle of Portobelo were evaluated. San Lorenzo.
According to Minister Concepción, the implementation of this project, from the perspective of the Ministry of Environment, will enhance the value of natural resources and biodiversity in this region of the country, while improving the structures to promote ecotourism, and tools are given to the population on issues of circular economy and sustainability.
Since the beginning of the administration of President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, projects aimed at promoting green and sustainable tourism for this community have been led, this being the case of the Support Program for the Conservation and Management of Cultural and Natural Heritage that is executed by the Ministry of the Environment with financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
