MiCultura promotes learning of Violin and Marjoram

Approximately seventy students from the provinces of Veraguas and Herrera participate in the projects promoted by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) called "Folk Violin" and "Siembra de Mejorana" that have been developed since April.

The "Folk Violin" project consists of giving the young participants the teachings that allow them to play an instrument that is part of our folklore such as the violin and marjoram, explained the well-known folklorist and teacher José Augusto Broce, who is the instructor.

In Los Pozos de Herrera, Rio De Jesús, and La Mesa de Veraguas, about 40 students participate in the violin course; while in Mejorana about 26 students participate.

The well-known folklorist José Augusto Broce, instructor of MiCultura explained that once the courses are finished, written copies of the Methodological Guide for the teaching of Marjoram and Violin will be published, as well as tutorial videos, to found a school of marjoram and violin in the aforementioned provinces .

The courses, which are free, will have a duration of 12 months and during this time Mi Cultura facilitated, as a loan, the instruments to the students.

The Mejorana is the Panamanian National instrument that is used to accompany the singing of the décima, for which there is an urgent need to create schools that teach young Panamanians to preserve the traditions that are part of the national identity.
