MIDES closes 2020 with actions in favor of early childhood, the elderly, gender equality and programs aimed at combating poverty and inequalities

The Ministry of Social Development recounts the main achievements made in the course of 2020, where early childhood, older adults, gender parity and vulnerable populations were served through programs and projects that enhanced human development in all the country.

In terms of social development, we have achieved the Comprehensive Protection Law for Early Childhood and Early Childhood Development, which guarantees services and care for children in topics such as: health, nutrition, early learning, identity and parenting with adequate guidelines.

We present to the country the “Mochila Cuidarte” intervention, which will allow the intervention in early stimulation of 12,500 boys and girls from the country's most vulnerable townships that do not have CAIPI and the actions that were taken to mitigate the effects of the COVID pandemic -19, in which the “Tu Caipi en Casa” program stands out in virtual and blended mode, for the child development of children from 0-4 years of age through blended classes that attended 1,620 families in 98 community CAIPIs.

This program in its virtual mode offers inputs, such as: videos, stories, songs, positive parenting guidelines, care recommendations, varied activities and downloadable material. It has registered more than 9 thousand visits.

To reinforce these programs, digital platforms such as Zoom and YouTube were used to train more than 3,300 teachers through seminars and virtual forums, which enabled them to update themselves in new teaching methods.

In relation to the shelters for children and adolescents that are private or run by the State, the norms that regulate their opening and operation were strengthened, through the promulgation of Executive Decree No. 404, which dictates new provisions for these centers, such as require those in charge of shelters to have a university degree in areas of social sciences, humanities or similar, with proven experience in child protection and strengthens the monitoring of shelters.
