Ministry of Labor creates coercive jurisdiction

The plenary session of the National Assembly (AN), approved in third debate the Bill No. 185 of 2020, which creates the coercive jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development, readjusts the fine for recidivism in the hiring of foreign workers without permission of work and gives tools to the Labor Inspection Directorate for the collection of the Health, Safety and Hygiene at Work Fund.

The norm presented by the Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata Acevedo, will come into force after being sanctioned by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and its promulgation in the Official Gazette and will grant the power to make effective the collection of the sanctions arising from the violation of labor laws.

This Bill No. 185 allows MITRADEL to collect the fines and make them effective through an executing judge, protecting the national workforce and guaranteeing the human rights of the workers.

With this initiative, MITRADEL maintains the firm commitment to verify compliance with current legal provisions on occupational health and safety through Inspectors and Safety Officials specialized in public and private construction projects.

The Ministry of Labor continues to establish effective policies in order to protect the safety of workers and raise awareness in the monitoring of biosecurity measures due to COVID-19 in workplaces
