MITRADEL joins the “Think 2 Times” campaign for safe migration and preventing human trafficking

The Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata Acevedo participated in the launch of the awareness campaign called “Piénsalo Dos Veces” that strengthens the capacities of the migrant population in the district of La Chorrera and helps them identify human trafficking for the purposes of labor exploitation.

The head of the Labor portfolio pointed out that the government of Panama has the firm intention of advancing the objectives of the Global Compact on Migration in order to reduce the risks and vulnerability of migrants, guaranteeing their human rights.

The Minister added that it is essential to guide those who choose to migrate in the search for better opportunities, especially young people, in addition to promoting good practices in hiring, ethical and equitable recruitment in employment agencies.

The activity was organized by the International Organization for Migration in conjunction with the United States Embassy in Panama, the Ministry of Public Security, an entity that presides over the National Commission Against Trafficking in Persons, the Government of Panama Oeste, the Ministry of Foreign Relations and the Ministry of Labor for Labor Development.

All the information, tips and videos to avoid these situations can be found by going to the website somoscolmena.info/piensalo2veces. You can also make a complaint to the number 516-2846 if you are a victim of labor exploitation or another form of human trafficking.
