Public Works aspires to generate about 20 thousand jobs, says Minister Rafael Sabonge

The economic reactivation includes works in progress, projects tendered, with order to proceed, turnkey and under the modality of APP


The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is advancing with the economic reactivation plan which is made up of three stages, said Minister Rafael Sabonge, following the objectives set by the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, focused on the creation of direct jobs and indirect that generate aggregate demand in gross domestic product.



The construction industry generates an aggregate demand value of 62% in the gross domestic product, said Minister Sabonge, indicated that there are currently around 5,000 jobs, it is expected to increase to 10,000 jobs this year 2021 and it is projected to generate about 20 thousand direct and indirect jobs and related activities such as restaurants, pharmacies, among others in 2022.

The first stage has been the reactivation of the current projects that were paralyzed by the pandemic and which restarted in September 2020, reported the head of the MOP, of which he highlighted the execution of the Rehabilitation and Widening of the La Concepción Highway ( CPA) -Cuesta de Piedra-Volcán, in the province of Chiriquí with an investment of approximately B / .84,276,325.07 that advances by 30 percent, and is generating about 400 direct and indirect jobs.

He highlighted the rehabilitation of the Atalaya - Mariato - Quebro highway in Veraguas, with an investment of 78 million dollars that is generating 150 direct jobs, of which there are 51 jobs in the communities. In addition to the Rehabilitation project of the Jagüito - Calobre highway and the highway that goes from Pedasí - Los Asientos - Cañas in Los Santos, which will be inaugurated next April, which has an important tourist impact.
