Executive Branch reiterates respect for the separation of powers from the State.

The Executive Branch, aware of the separation of powers and respectful of the provisions that constitutionally govern the Panamanian State, warns that it will not intercede, or assume any position on the decision that the Deputies of the National Assembly will take, who must choose a new board of directors on next July 1, 2021.

The Assembly by Constitution is an independent body and as such, it corresponds to the deputies to decide who represents and directs them for a year and in this way the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen has managed, who in these two years has not intervened in legislative decisions.

In accordance with a system of checks and balances that must prevail between the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiciary, which at the same time guarantees the validity of a rule of law and a real and effective democracy, the Executive reiterates the respect shown to date by Cortizo Cohen in the process for the election of the President of the Assembly.

Next Thursday, July 1, the National Assembly begins the first session for its third term for one year, with the selection and installation of its new board of directors by majority vote of the deputies.
