Panama, which is convening this virtual meeting and is promoting the debate, has set as its main objective to find concrete answers and definitive solutions, with a humanitarian and responsible approach, to a phenomenon clearly on the rise, with figures that exceed any statistics of the last ten years .

Cross-border cooperation and the timely exchange of information are the approaches on which the work agenda has been developed.

“Irregular migration is not just a Panamanian problem. It is an international phenomenon that demands immediate attention and the cooperation of the countries of the region that are part of this difficult route ”, declared Foreign Minister Erika Mouynes about the expectations of the meeting.

“With tomorrow's meeting, we will create the first regional framework to address this irregular migration. We seek a robust commitment that provides continuity to the discussions we sponsor and allows us to gradually eradicate dangerous migratory routes to guarantee both the freedom of movement and the security of migrants as well as the well-being of the communities through which they transit ”, he added.
