Panama wins technological award becoming a benchmark for innovation in America

The AIG has enabled multiple resources in different institutions to accelerate the digital transformation processes of government entities in charge of managing the pandemic.


Panama has been highlighted among 100,000 organizations in the 2021 Esri Global Users Conference, with the “Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award”, for addressing the workflows and complex processes in the Global Emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thank you to teamwork by the National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) and the Ministry of Health (MINSA).

This award is given to user deployments around the world and seeks to recognize outstanding work with recognized Geographic information systems technology such as GIS.

The organizers of the event highlighted that Panama deployed a strategy to plan the operational response in a profitable manner in record time to analyze the different situations and support decision-making, both in Phase 1 corresponding to tests, monitoring and traceability and in Phase 2 that attends the distribution of vaccines.

Among the technology implemented, field applications stand out to achieve integrations with chatbots and telemedicine, feed and strengthen the Surveillance System, as well as the application of vaccination to capture vaccinated people in real time and analysis by territory to guarantee data coherence. In this regard, Eng. Luis Oliva, Administrator of the AIG highlighted being proud to have these professionals who create digital platforms, used during the pandemic in cases of Covid-19, Digital Voucher, Vaccination, Virtual Education and the update of the Portal of Open Data.
