Panama reiterates commitment to small businesses


Panama reinforces the commitment to the recovery of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises sector in order to generate new jobs and recover the national economy, affirmed the deputy director of the Micro, Medium and Small Business Authority (Ampyme), Arturo Arango Osorio.

The official's statements were given during his participation in the Second Regional Policy Dialogue for MSMEs and the Competition to face the Crisis and Promote Reactivation, a mission entrusted by the director of the institution, Oscar Ramos Jirón.

The meeting sponsored by ECLAC and the United Nations had the participation of specialists from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, El Salvador, Chile, among other countries, and was held virtually.

Arango Osorio reiterated during his participation that these are guidelines of the National Government and the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, who is aware of the importance of what they represent for the economy.

During his participation in the dialogue, Arango Osorio said that currently great importance is given to the training of the beneficiaries of the programs, as well as the use of technology for the operation of the companies. He pointed out that the National Government is promoting programs such as Seed Capital and Banca de Oportunidades, among others.

He reported that during the last months the Seed Capital program was increased from B / .1,000 to B / .2,000 in order to provide greater impetus to entrepreneurs.

Arango Osorio explained to the panelists that in the case of Banca de Oportunidades, loans are provided to entrepreneurs from B / .2,000 to B / .5,000 with a term of 84 months and with a low interest rate.

He added that all the programs that are provided in addition to prior training are duly monitored to ensure that the investments are carried out in the best way.
