Panama becomes the first country in the region to launch digital program with mastercard

As part of the efforts to promote economic reactivation, the National Government headed by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen signed a memorandum of understanding with Mastercard, a multinational financial services company in the world, in order to promote the digitization of payments, financial inclusion and economic development with programs that bring direct benefits to citizens.

President Cortizo Cohen expressed his satisfaction for the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding with the multinational company that chose Panama as the first country to launch its Digital Country Partnership program in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

"With this agreement, Mastercard demonstrates its confidence in Panama by becoming the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to sign an alliance focused on promoting the digital agenda and being able to provide training and continuing education to citizens," said the President during his intervention on the spot.

The technology company Mastercard was established in Panama earlier this year within the Regime of Multinational Companies Headquarters (SEM) and this agreement will accelerate the process towards a digital economy that works for all Panamanians creating impacts on growth, innovation, structural change and social inclusion as factors to combat inequality, according to the Panamanian president.

In his words, Cortizo Cohen highlighted that the alliance with Mastercard also contributes to the development of the pillars of the Digital Government Agenda focused on the Digitalization of Payments, Financial Inclusion and Economic Development.

According to the president, "the collaboration between private companies and the public sector mainly favors those communities with difficult access, thus creating a digital and technological Panama for all our citizens."
