Panama and Costa Rica unite for the future of National Sports


Seeking to deepen the understanding and mutual friendship between Panama and Costa Rica, the General Director of the Panamanian Institute of Sports (Pandeportes) Héctor Brands and his counterpart Alba Quesada Rodríguez, of the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (ICODER), signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the Future of National Sports.

The Ricardo J Alfaro auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the setting where both authorities have considered it to be of mutual interest to maintain an institutional cooperation relationship that allows the development and execution of common plans, programs, projects and actions within the framework of their competences and will, based on the principles of equity, reciprocity and mutual benefit.

The Memorandum of Understanding indicates that technical assistance programs will be carried out in the field of sports, recreation and physical activity policy and management, and exchange of information and experiences on public policies developed in those areas with a focus on Gender and Human Rights, to support each other.

Technical advice and training will be given aimed at specialists and leaders in the fields of sport and physical education, and their applied science, which will allow the creation of capacities and professional development, as well as the exchange of experiences in the design, implementation and evaluation of institutional strengthening programs.

Advice on the design of a management model for sports establishments in Panama, based on the experience of the model applied in Costa Rica and support for the implementation of a National Sports and Recreation Plan in Panama.

Héctor Brands, General Director of Pandeporte, stated that the institution is eager to facilitate the political-administrative consolidation of Panama in the sports sector.

After the signing by both authorities, the National Director of ICODER held a discussion with members of the press and special guests, where she shared her experiences in the process of implementation of the National Sports, Recreation and Physical Activity Policy. (PONADRAF 2020-2030) in the neighboring country.
