The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, announced in Chiriquí the construction of the Student Residence of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Panama, based in this province, reaffirming his commitment to the country's agricultural sector since the training of future professionals.
The work will be built with an investment of B / .823,500 and will house low-income students from different provinces and remote areas of the country who attend this study center that dictates seven university degrees.
The chief executive said that today he moved to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to formalize the commitment to build dormitories so that students who come from other provinces and remote parts of the country "have a decent dormitory here."
After a tour of the certified rice seed plots, the musaceae germplasm bank (plantains and bananas) and the rice seed analysis laboratory of the Faculty of Agronomy in Chiriquí, Cortizo Cohen highlighted
that in a pandemic the agricultural sector has been one of those that grew economically, registering an increase of 3%. "This is an important sign that this administration is working shoulder to shoulder with the producers of this country," he said.
He also indicated that the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of Chiriquí produces the best certified rice seed that is grown in the country. It is the FCA-FLA 616 variety that is grown in an area of ??30 hectares and from which 3,000 quintals of seed are produced per year.
