President Cortizo hands over the national flag to the delegation that will represent Panama in the XVI Paralympic Games.


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, presented the national flag to the athletes who will represent Panama at the XVI Paralympic Games in Tokyo, to be held in Japan, from August 24 to September 5, 2021.

 

On behalf of the Panamanian delegation, the parathlete Iveth Valdés received the national flag from the hands of President Cortizo Cohen, in the Yellow Room of the Presidency.

 

“I congratulate you, I am very proud of you because it has been an enormous journey, but life is full of purposes and you, with discipline, have achieved it. You are champions ”, highlighted the President of the Republic.

 

Cortizo Cohen added that representing Panama in the next Paralympic Games in Tokyo is a great honor and recognized that Panamanian athletes with disabilities, “in their minds and hearts know that they are champions, because it has not been easy to train in the middle of a pandemic".

 

The Paralympic athlete and general secretary of the Paralympic Committee of Panama, Iveth Valdés, thanked President Cortizo Cohen for this distinction and said that today they assume the formal commitment that this delegation acquired at the time of

 

 

start training with an eye toward Tokyo 2020, a date that ran due to adverse circumstances.

 

"We assume this responsibility understanding that we represent more than four million Panamanians and a large number of people with disabilities, that is why we understand that we must represent the country with the greatest possible dignity and we promise to leave the name of Panama very high." Valdés stated.

 

The Panamanian delegation is made up of three parathletes, two men and one woman; in addition to the technical staff and doctors. In the Olympic event, the country will participate in athletics (javelin throw and 400 meter sprints) and "powerlifting", category of 72 kilograms.
