President Cortizo sanctions a bill that promotes professional baseball academies.

The establishment of these centers will allow baseball players from Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia and Nicaragua, among other countries, to be trained in Panama.


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, sanctioned the law that creates a development plan for the minor categories of baseball, allows the establishment of professional baseball academies in Panama and grants tax incentives to national and international companies and organizations that invest in this sports discipline.

 

The new law, signed by the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, received the sanction of the president in a ceremony held at the Rod Carew National Stadium, in the presence of national sports glories such as former world champion Roberto “Manos de Stones ”Durán; Olympic medalist Irving Saladino; former major leaguers Carlos Lee; footballer Jorge Dely Valdés, as well as members of the Chiriquí Little League team, champion of the last national tournament, among others.

 

President Cortizo Cohen stated that the law has the purpose of enhancing the capacities of young athletes, both in different disciplines and in education, so that they have the option of scholarships at foreign universities.

 

“One of the main objectives of the law is to promote and encourage the discipline of baseball in children and adolescents, between 9 and 18 years of age, through the creation of academies, professional baseball teams and other disciplines in the territory. national ”, he added.
