IDB President highlights Panama as a key country for the economic reactivation of the region.

President Cortizo Cohen thanks the IDB for its great support to the vaccination program, the digitization of entities such as the AIG and the Colmena Plan, which seeks to lay the foundations for the fight against poverty and inequality.


The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone, announced that this entity will focus its financial support and technical assistance in Panama, since the economic recovery of this country will be key for the region due to the impact that its business and services.

"If Panama is successful, the rest of the region will," said IDB President, who, together with a bank delegation, held a productive meeting with the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, and part of his economic team.

Claver-Carone said that Panama "has a unique opportunity" to be the engine of economic reactivation, and highlighted his interest in the IDB focusing its work, for which he asked those in charge of the IDB in this country to focus on promoting projects in Panama.

In this regard, he expressed financial and technical support to the Government of President Cortizo Cohen in projects in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, small and medium-sized enterprises and the promotion of the private sector, among others.

"We are going to comply with Panama," said the IDB president in relation to the entity's support for the projects they execute and finance in the country.

President Cortizo Cohen, for his part, stressed that the IDB has a very good profile in the region and added that, in the midst of the pandemic, the support of the bank has been extremely important for the country in the success of programs such as that of vaccination against Covid-19, which has allowed it to acquire a considerable number of safe and effective vaccines to immunize the population against the virus.

He added that, with the support of the IDB, the modernization of the National Government Innovation Authority (AIG) has been promoted, with a digitization process that has made the care of medical services more efficient, in addition to the payment of the Digital Voucher to through the Panama Solidario Program, which has been a reference plan for the region and was awarded by the United Nations and the IDB.
