President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen appoints new director of Pandeportes


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, appointed Héctor Brands Córdoba as the new director of the Panamanian Institute of Sports (Pandeportes), who replaces Eduardo Cerda Quintero.

Brands, who is a deputy of the National Assembly for the 8-7 circuit, has a degree in Law and Political Science and has a Diploma in Senior Management from INCAE Business School. He is the founder and executive director of the Nueva Generación social and cultural movement between 1999 and 2014. He also founded the Mundial del Barrio program, of which he was general coordinator for almost 20 years (2000-2019).

He has also chaired the Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the National Assembly between 2019 and 2021 and has also been a representative of the Legislative Organ in the National Council of Physical Activity, Sports and Recreation of the Panamanian Institute of Sports (2019-2020 -2021).

Likewise, he has worked in the National Commission on Free Competition and Consumer Affairs, in the National Directorate of Migration and in the General Directorate of Customs.

The Panamanian Institute of Sports was created by Law 16 of May 3, 1995, which later underwent several modifications, in order to promote sports and recreation to continue raising the quality of life of the Panamanian population.

Cortizo Cohen also appointed Eduardo Cerda Quintero Regional Coordinator of the National Center (CON) for central provinces that include Herrera, Los Santos, Cocle and Veraguas.
