President Sanctions Law that creates the Civil Protection Career

The rights and duties of public servants who provide services in the National Civil Protection System will be regulated. Civil Protection Career will be based on criteria of equality, efficiency, loyalty, transparency, honesty, competence and professionalism.


The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, sanctioned this Tuesday the law that creates the Civil Protection Career, in addition to signing the Executive Decree that creates the Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Cabinet (GIRD), initiatives that will guarantee more favorable conditions for public servants who provide these services to the community.

The regulations were signed by the Chief Executive and the Minister of Government (Mingob), Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, in a ceremony held in the Yellow Room of the Presidency in which the rescuers of the National Civil Protection System were recognized ( Sinaproc) Jorge Barahona, from Los Santos; Rolando Gómez, from Chiriquí; and Julio Cueva, from Veraguas, for their work during hurricanes Eta and Iota.

The president affirmed that with these norms there are significant advances in the prevention of risks and protection of life, and the country will be better prepared and will concentrate efforts on prevention and not only on the management of responses, as has happened so far. . "It is to build the foundations for teamwork, disciplined and aligned," he added.

He said that the law that creates the Civil Protection Career recognizes the value of the professional potential of men and women who sacrifice and risk their physical integrity in the noble purpose of protecting and saving lives.

It also reorganizes and strengthens the administrative structure of Sinaproc and its operational capacity, which will allow it to more efficiently execute its function as an entity in charge of preventing and mitigating the consequences of catastrophes, as well as preparing and protecting the population from the destructive effects of potentially hazardous natural phenomena.

Cortizo Cohen stated that the creation of the GIRD is a decisive step for the timely and effective attention to the risks and serious consequences of natural phenomena, which are increasingly frequent.
