First Lady delivers donations to NGOs in Chiriquí

The Office of the First Lady, through the Directorate of Social Assistance, paid a visit to three non-profit organizations (NGOs) in the district of David, province of Chiriquí, which carry out social work to help Panamanians in situation of vulnerability.

The First Lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, led this tour where dry food, oil, meat products (chicken), tetra pack milk, appliances, school kits, cleaning and personal hygiene items, footwear, soccer balls were delivered and other items.

"For me and my team, it is a great satisfaction to be able to help these organizations that do invaluable social work in favor of our children, youth and seniors at risk. I am pleased to be here in David and deliver these donations that come to mitigate the needs of these NGOs, "said Colón de Cortizo.

One of the centers visited was the SOS Children's Villages, which have 69 minors under their care. This NGO is dedicated to the care of girls, boys and adolescents at social risk, particularly those who have lost family care or are at risk of losing it, providing shelter, protection and ensuring the restitution of the rights that each one deserves.

Another of the centers that benefited from these grants was the Miraculous Medal Home, which houses 64 girls and adolescents from the Chiriquí province and the Ngäbe Buglé Region, who are in a situation of social risk, abandonment and extreme poverty.

And as a last point, the First Lady and her team visited the Hogar Santa Catalina, which has under its care 50 older adults at social risk, from Chiriquí and other provinces. This home is managed by the Elizabeth Franciscan Sisters, who have been providing service to the community for 50 years.

These three NGOs benefited from the agreement between MAPFRE Panama and the Asociación Pro Obras de Beneficencia (APROB), chaired by the First Lady, which aims to support children, young people and older adults who have suffered deficiencies as a result of the pandemic of the COVID-19.

Through the signing of this agreement, a donation of $ 152,000.00 balboas was allocated for the acquisition of food, milk, cereals and disposable diapers for infants; as well as food supplements, diapers for the elderly and other supplies that will benefit different households and dining rooms in the country.
