See and Hear to Learn Program arrives in Darién


The Office of the First Lady, through its Directorate of Social Projection, led to the town of Zapallal, district of Santa Fe, province of Darién, the See and Hear to Learn Program, which consists of medical days of optometry, speech therapy, dentistry , vaccination and nutrition, aimed at students from official educational centers.

In the General Basic Education Center (C.E.B.G) El Zapallal 301 students were evaluated; in C.E.B.G Altos del Cristo 113; in C.E.B.G Nicanor 23; in C.E.B.G. Arretí 61 and in the IPHE 10 students, that is, more than 500 students to be able to detect any visual or hearing ailment in time.

"To have a better performance in class, it is essential to see and hear, that is why through the Office we continue to promote programs like this one, for the benefit of our children who are the future of the country," said the First Lady, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo.

The results of this assessment will determine how many students need glasses or hearing aids. These conferences are carried out by medical personnel from the Specialized University of the Americas (UDELAS).

To this day, more than 1,200 students have been evaluated in Panamá Oeste, San Miguelito and Darién. The next evaluation sessions of the See and Hear to Learn Program will move to the Comarca Ngâbe Buglé and the province of Coclé.

The Zapallal district was created in November 2014, separating itself from the Santa Fe district. The inhabitants of Zapallal are dedicated to the production of banana, yucca, chili peppers and rice, as well as poultry, pig and cattle production.
