Tourism Cabinet Secretariat monitors Projects in Chiriquí


The Tourism Cabinet Secretariat coordinates and monitors the articulation of inter-institutional efforts to comply with the vision of the Sustainable Tourism Master Plan 2020-2025, which is to be recognized as a world-class sustainable tourism destination, thanks to the extraordinary wealth and diversity its natural and cultural heritage and the quality of its services.

To this end, priority tourist destinations have been identified in terms of improving infrastructure and basic services with projects financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) such as the design and construction project of the Integrated Border Control Center in Paso Canoas, in Chiriquí province.

This work seeks to modernize the border crossing between Panama and Costa Rica, streamlining the procedures in the movement of cargo, vehicles and people from the Central American region.

Urban improvement works are also planned in the area of ??the border line where the current checkpoint is located.

Another project being promoted is the Enrique Malek Airport Improvement Plan, in David, which includes the reconstruction of the pavement and drainage of the air terminal platform, which is already 90% complete and scheduled to end in the month of July this year. The work has generated 55 direct and indirect jobs throughout its development.

The improvements of the airport terminal with 60% progress have generated between 25 to 75 direct and indirect jobs; runway and platform luminaires that are 55% complete and its execution is estimated to end in 2022, with the aim of improving the lighting system to guarantee visual aids for landing and parking on national and international flights
