COORDINATED WORK TO UNDERTAKE STRATEGIES AIMED AT STRENGTHENING THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR


During a working tour of the province of Veraguas, the general director of the IMA, Carlos Motta, met with staff from the regional office of the institution and MIDA with the purpose of coordinating the acquisition of the rice corresponding to the 2021-2022 harvest.

Among the topics addressed were the processes of reception, storage and distribution of the grain, as well as quality parameters that it must have to be assigned to the Panama Solidario Plan, the fairs and the stores that the entity plans to launch at a later date.

The head of the IMA also participated in a discussion with associations of the dairy, pig and livestock sectors, aimed at learning about the needs they have to carry out their production and establish support measures.

Motta also met with the governor of Chiriquí, Juan Carlos Muñoz, to discuss issues such as the organization of the reception and storage of the products in the collection center of the Plan Panamá Solidario enabled in the regional headquarters of the IMA in the district of David, where more than one million bags have been supplied with basic necessities, in addition to receiving agricultural products purchased by the National Government, as part of the assistance measures established by President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen during the pandemic.

Likewise, a visit was made to the Postharvest Handling Center in Cerro Punta, where he spoke with Ranthy Berard, general manager of the National Markets of Cadena de Frío, SA, an entity with which an agreement to monitor product prices is being carried out. , from the center until your arrival at Merca Panama.

On the other hand, authorities from the Ministry of Agricultural Development and the Agricultural Marketing Institute held a second meeting with members of the country's swine and poultry industries who presented the offer of products that they may have for the end of the year season.

The director general of the IMA supported the 2020 management report of this entity before the Commission of Agricultural Affairs of the National Assembly, where he highlighted the purchases that have been made to national producers for the Panama Solidario Plan.

"We have disbursed almost 5 million balboas through a payment fund for purchases of less than 10,000, benefiting 2,500 producers, approximately," Motta said.

Regarding the acquisition of national rice, he indicated that 11.7 million balboas have been paid to 409 independent producers and associations from different provinces that offered approximately 700 thousand quintals of the grain to be included in solidarity bags.
