Three companies interested in preparing six tourism management plans

Three companies presented their proposals for the bidding of consulting services for the preparation of Land Use Plans (POT) and studies of climate change scenarios in Pedasí, Bocas del Toro, Boquete, Tierras Altas, Soná and Taboga.

The public act of opening the envelopes was led by the Vice Minister of Territorial Planning, José Batista; the general administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), Iván Eskildsen and local authorities of the different districts.

The bidders who presented their proposals for the six tourist destinations promoted by the ATP with funds from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) were Consortium IDOM-SUMA, Consorcio Geoval-2020 and Tourism Business Builders, SL.

This contract is part of the execution of the IDB's Comprehensive Urban Development of Cities with a Tourist Vocation program.

Vice Minister Batista reported that with these POTs it is expected not only to preserve tourist destinations, but also to provide these districts with a tool that allows them to control the territory and a roadmap for mitigating the effects of climate change.

In addition, he pointed out that it will allow sustainable tourism development and includes a territorial analysis with the evaluation of all resources, physical means, legal frameworks, population, productive activities, infrastructure, risk zones and disasters.

Batista pointed out that the evaluation commission will determine after the evaluation and the opening of the economic proposal which is the company that will be in charge of carrying out the studies of the six plans. "We can have the appraisal in about a month and from there there will be a year for the development of the plans," Batista concluded.
