COVID-19 vaccine prepares the body to attack the virus

The national head of epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, Leonardo Labrador, explained that epidemiological surveillance once the COVID-19 vaccine is applied is continuous, and based on this, he specified that a total of 48 immunized people, who were already incubating the SARS-CoV-2 virus when the vaccine was applied.

He explained that this group of patients once developed symptoms of COVID-19 they underwent the PCR diagnostic test and the results came out positive.

Labrador specified that part of the epidemiological investigation reflects that these patients were in the incubation period of the virus when the vaccine was applied, that is, they were asymptomatic.

"This indicates that the patients were asymptomatic when the vaccine was administered, and had not developed antibodies, since they start with 50% from 14 days after the first dose," reported Labrador.

The doctor also pointed out that the cases have occurred mainly in women; being the regions of central Panama and the province of Chiriquí, where the majority are reported.

He emphasized that all are stable, he also stressed that the negative COVID test will not be requested in order to supply the dose because at the moment the priority of the health system is vaccination.

Finally, he made it clear that it was not the vaccine supplied that generated the symptoms of the patients, but rather that these people were already incubating the virus. He affirmed that the vaccine against Covid-19 protects the human being and prepares the body to have defenses to immediately counter SARS-CoV-2.
