Vice Minister of Labor presents before the American Chamber of Commerce regulations of Law 201

A "Discussion on Law 201 of February 25, 2021, which establishes temporary measures to preserve employment and normalize labor relations", was held this Wednesday, March 17, 2021, through a webinar between the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (MITRADEL) and the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama (AmCham), which included the participation of the Vice Minister of Labor, Roger Tejada Bryden, and the labor lawyer, Jeannette Bravo, Senior Associate LOVILL.

Vice Minister Tejada indicated that the new regulation rescues some elements of Law 157, of preservation of employment that was in force on December 31, 2020.

In the discussion held virtually with the participation of more than 60 spectators, he explained specific points of Law 201 such as the issue of gradualism in the return of workers according to economic activity, being the primary sector with a term of 3 months, the secondary sector for 6 months and the tertiary sector for 8 months.

He also mentioned that in the first months, union managers and representatives, women with maternity leave, people with disabilities and workers with greater seniority are reintegrated.

To safeguard the employment of suspended workers, the deputy minister warned that said Law prohibits each company or employer from entering into new employment contracts, without first having reactivated all its collaborators.

Tejada reported that the labor entity installed on the internet platform www.mitradel.gob.pa, the option of the National Unemployment Registry (RENADE). "This database will allow MITRADEL to promote employment policies and companies a data on the personnel available to cover their needs," said the vice minister.
